YellowBag Foundation has established a community resource centre named Oonjal Veedu in Madichiyam, Madurai, aimed at strengthening livelihoods, education, and access to essential support services for women and children from low-income communities.
The centre serves as a shared space for multiple grassroots initiatives designed to create meaningful, local impact.
Integrated Programs Under One Roof
Oonjal Veedu currently hosts three key initiatives:
Vallavi Skills Academy – A women’s skill training initiative that equips approximately 60 women every month with practical livelihood skills across various domains.
Minminigal – An after-school learning and activity centre where over 50 children participate in structured evening programs that support their development.
Vallavi Women’s Collective – A platform that encourages women to come together, explore entrepreneurship, and build nano enterprises within their local communities.
Enabling Livelihoods and Local Economies
Through its programs, the centre focuses on enabling women to gain sustainable income opportunities while strengthening household resilience. By promoting women-led micro and nano enterprises, Oonjal Veedu aims to create localized economic ecosystems where demand and supply are met within the community itself.
Expanding Access to Essential Services
In addition to skill-building and education, the centre plans to facilitate access to a range of expert-led support services, including:
Mental health support
Medical consultations
Legal guidance
These services will be offered free of cost to ensure accessibility for underserved populations.
Oonjal Veedu also intends to create a dedicated space to improve awareness and access to social protection schemes for women, helping them better utilize government welfare programs.
